JULY 2013 UPDATE

BLIND MEN AND WHINERS GOLF TOURNAMENT- The second annual Golf Tournament will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at the Mansion Ridge Golf Course. A flyer with more complete details is enclosed. The boys’ coaches are hosting it this year and we are in charge of hosting it next year. If you are interested we urge you to attend and support this worthwhile BCANY project. We would like to establish golf tournament committee to get started working on next year’s event. If interested, please let one of us know. Thanks!

HOOPFEST 2013- We are all set for competition in the 3rd Annual BCANY Hoopfest to be held in Johnson City during the weekend of August 2-4. A big thank you to Head Coach Jim Steeves (Washingtonville) and his staff Gus Lawson (Goshen), Dan Redmond (Fallsburg) and BJ Masopust (Wallkill) for all of their time and dedication to the girls involved and to our section. If you get some time, please consider attending especially if you have a player involved.

BCANY STATEWIDE COACHES CLINIC- We are gearing up for this year’s coaching clinic to once again be held at SUNY-Cortland. The clinic starts on Friday, October 2nd and goes through Saturday, October 3rd. A detailed flyer will be mailed out in August. Make sure to set aside those dates. Tentative lineup includes Dave Paulson who led Bucknell to the NCAA tournament, Jimmy Patsos- Mens Siena, Katie Henderson –Womens SUNY Albany,  Bill Courtney- Mens Cornell and featured speaker Jim Boeheim-Mens Syracuse. Rick Torbet who runs a program called Better Basketball will also be speaking. Our own John Lauro, OCC Women’s Basketball Coach will be one of the mini workshops presenters. We urge you to set aside these dates and attend this truly NY State clinic.

MEMBERSHIP /DUES 2013-14- We are going to follow a model used by several other sections for the upcoming year. As we mentioned last spring, we are struggling financially to stay above water. The dues we have previously collected no longer can cover the cost of our organization’s activities. We are looking for creative ways to raise money and to date no one has responded with any ideas. If you have a good idea, please contact us.
For this year, we are setting dues at $75.00 payable to SNGBCA. This will include your membership to the Basketball Coaches Association of New York, the National High School Basketball Coaches Association, and our local Section Nine Girls’ Basketball Coaches Association. We will take care of your membership to each. We only ask that you fill out the enclosed Coaches Information Form so we have the most up to date information. We are accepting dues and forms beginning in July. Don’t wait until the season starts! Thanks
