Mr. Basketball
Lance Stephenson and Brandon Triche co-winners of “Mr. New York Basketball” for 2009
Lance Stephenson of Lincoln HS, Brooklyn and Brandon Triche, Jamesville-DeWitt HS, Syracuse are named co-winners of the 2009 “Mr. New York Basketball” award by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York, Inc. Stephenson and Triche were selected by a BCANY committee chaired by Mike MacDonald, Head Basketball Coach at Medaille College.
The Mr. New York Basketball award is presented by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York, Inc., which consists of basketball coaches at the scholastic and collegiate levels from throughout the entire state. The Mr. New York Basketball award is widely viewed as the top award that a high school basketball player in New York State can receive.
Stephenson led Lincoln to the PSAL AA championship this year. Stephenson is the all time leading scorer in New York State boys basketball history. Lincoln won a PSAL title in each of Stephensons four years on the squad.
Triche led Jamesville-DeWitt to the Class A, NYSPHSSA State crown this season. Last year he led Jamesville-DeWitt to both the NYSPHSAA and Federation, Class A, titles. Triche will attend Syracuse University on a basketball scholarship next fall.

How to nominate:
An individual must be in their senior year of high school and must be one of the best basketball players in the state. Nominations are to be sent to the Executive Director by December 1st. In the nominating letter please include (1) individual’s home address and phone number (2.) Coach’s name, home address, home phone, school address, school phone and email address, (3.) basketball statistics, (4.) academic average and/or class rank, (5.) extra curricular activities, (6.) community involvement, and (7.) any other supporting information.
